Don’t let the quarter of a million miles fool you – the body on this 1986 Toyota 4Runner is straight and rust free. Painted in the classic Toyota Red (Toyota color code 3D7), it’s a bright and bold vehicle that catches eyes on every road. Switch between a Softtopper canvas roof that rolls up on three sides, the original hard top (which is in excellent condition), or let your hair down and ride roofless. The front power windows feature wing windows in front of the pillar. Trial Guide A/P 31×10.50R15 LT tires wrap around the 15” factory alloy. Upfront you’ll find a set of smooth operating AISIN locking hubs.

However much we love the exterior, we love the interior more. Down by the auto’s gear selector and transfer case lever is an old-school ECT mode selector – the precursor to today’s drive mode selection. But unlike modern cars, the gauge cluster tells you no lies while featuring a tachometer, altimeter, oil pressure, and coolant temperature gauge. The sound system has been upgraded with the Premier Pioneer DEH-P4000UB radio with a CD player, USB and MP3 player input, and AM/FM radio.

The interior trim and gray seat upholstery is in excellent condition for a 40 year old SUV. Driver and passenger sit in two cloth buck seats up front with a bench seat in back. The previous owner installed new carpet throughout and we put in a set of color matched floor mats to keep it looking pretty. The front seats can be manually adjusted, and a cubby compartment and glovebox complete the front cab. Interior dome lights illuminate the front seat, and the upholstered door cards have built-in lights. Additional options include sun visors, complete with vanity mirrors, and a 12v outlet.

Car Cave has completed over $10,500 of recent maintenance on this 4Runner. We’ve replaced the fuel pump, master cylinder, fan clutch and starter; installed a gas door lock, windshield trim and molding; repaired the rear head cover gasket; flushed the engine coolant system; updated the oil pressure switch; performed a complete rear brake inspection and update; refreshed the interior with an updated center console, door handle trim, underdash wiring; and tightened the steering gearbox.
