The ultimate Station Wagon

The 1995 BMW M5 Touring shown is finished in Macao Blue Metallic over Granite Silver Metallic.  The interior is a beautiful complment of Light Silver Grey Nappa Leather with a special ordered Graphite Birds Eye Maple finishes.  On top of the standard options for a M5, the major factory ordered exterior options include a Double Sliding Electric Sunroof, Headlight Washer System with Intensive Cleaning, Roof Rack with Longitudinal Rails, Shadowline, Aerodynamic M3 Mirrors, 3rd Brake Light, and Body Color Matched Rear Spoiler.

Factory ordered interior options include an Electric Adjustable Steering Column, Rear Window Sun Blinds, Dual Front Power Seats, Automatic Climate Control, Cruise Control, M Leather Steering Wheel, Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror, and BMW Professional Radio with HiFi Loundspeaker System.  Many options were standard on this model including 6-speed manual transmission, staggered 18” M Parallel Spoke Wheels, Electronic Damping Control system, sport front seats, power locks, power steering, power windows, limited slip differential, power mirrors, and power brakes.

Please feel free to contact us to review the history file and maintenance records regarding this BMW.  While in our possession we performed a whole list of maintenance on this M5 including:  dry ice cleaning, replaced leaking valve cover, repaired driver side seat recline mechanism, adjusted passenger side mirror mount, motor mounts (11811139019 & 11811137149), installed mid-pipe exhaust hangers (18211177708), replaced exhaust from catalytic converter back, remove and replace rear subframe bushing (33311128670), removed and replaced rear sway bar endlinks (33551131131), made repairs to rear passenger EDC shock due to leak at fitting, replaced both rear subframe links (33321125665 & 33321126476), driver front lower control arm (left 31121139987), passenger front lower control arm (right 31121139988), and rear lower thrust arm inner bushing (31122226528).  If you are familiar with these engines, then you are aware the vacuum systems can give plenty of restless nights… so we rebuilt the vacuum system with the following parts replaced: check valve (11611312737), vacuum hose (11727545323 – 3.5×1.8), vacuum hose (11747797050 – 3.3×1.8), vacuum hose (11727545323 – 3.5×1.8), vent hose (1151317504), tube (11611312670), o-ring bottom of manifold (11611312937), o-ring throttle bodies (13541317994), resonance valve actuators (11741742711), and air container (11611318212).  The proper Illuminated Leather Shifting H25110 BMW (25112227662) has been ordered and will be installed once it arrives.

The S38B38 M5’s gained Adaptive M Suspension, a reduced-effort clutch, and a several cosmetic changes.  The 3.8-liter M5s were available in both LHD and RHD variations, but there were no North American editions.  The small production run of E34 M5 Touring, or station wagon, were all left-hand drive European specification.  In May 1994 several upgrades occurred on the final evolution of the E34 M5 making the last 209 produced the most valuable.

The later version European-spec E34 M5 had the upgraded S38B38.  The bore was increased to 94.6mm and the stroke lengthened to 90mm.  The displacement raised to 3,795cc making it the largest six-cylinder production BMW engine of the modern era.  Theres no replacement for displacement but BMW Motorsports division did not stop there.  These changes increased the compression ratio to 10.5:1 through some major upgrades to S38 including:

The S38B38 is normally rated at 340 hp (ECE) or 347 hp (DIN) at 6,900 rpm and 295 lb/ft of torque at 4,750 rpm.  The Six-Speed Getrag Type D manual gearbox with the following ratios: 4.23 (1), 2.52 (2), 1.66 (3), 1.22 (4), 1.00 (5), 0.83 (6).  The Six-Speed came paired to a taller 3.23:1 limited slip differential with a maximum locking of 25 percent.  The M5 chassis has several changes incorporated from the base E34 MacPherson Strut and Semi-Trailing Arm design.  Ride height is reduced by 20mm, a 25% increase in spring firmness, thicker Antiroll Bars, and adjustable rear toe-in.  Steering system had a change in ratio from 16.2:1 to 15.6:1.

Adaptive M Suspension was a standard on all 6 Speed built M5s when previous only found with the Nurburgring Package.  The M-tuned version of the Electronic Damping Control system features a control switch on the dashboard that allows Adaptive M Suspension to be switched to a firmer more aggressive setting.  The “advanced for its time” electronic system uses sensors to gather lateral G’s, acceleration, braking, steering, and road speed for an optimally tuned shock rate.
